Several principles inform this blog. First, recovery happens, and it happens in many ways. Second, families with a loved one who is abusing substances are too often overlooked; they need assistance whether or not the active addict is seeking it. Third, as ineffective as prohibition may be, we need to change the culture of alcohol and substance abuse in our society, particularly among youth, starting with a too-prevalent parental attitude that "getting high"  is an acceptable "rite of passage."  

We hope that these blog items inspire feedback on the Elephant on Main Street social network.
