For the rest of Troy's life he'll have to live with the idea that he played a part in the death of a friend when he sold him half a suboxone pill for $5.00, or will he? Generally speaking this makes no sense. Reading this story it is difficult to understand exactly what happened but its more likely the friend OD'd on alcohol, period.
One of the great things about suboxone is its high threshold for overdosing. It does not effect the respiratory system the same way most opioids do. Mixing it with alcohol — like mixing any opioid, barbituate or benzodiazepine — is far from a wise choice but it is highly unlikely, from my experience, that the suboxone is to be blamed. Is it simply easier to blame the bad, evil, symbol of scum, suboxone, relative of heroin, than the more readily acceptable drug alcohol? Both are legal and both had to have been obtained illegally as the students were both underage. But, as usual, lets not look at the elephant at the party, lets look at the flea.
The death is tragic no matter what killed this young man, but to destroy another life, already consumed with guilt, to avoid confronting the real drug, in this beer producing city — alcohol — is the real crime. Read on and let me know what you think? --Deirdre
